DUBOIS – Learning some basic conversation in Spanish while studying the Mexican culture has proven to be a worthwhile process for preparing DuBois Central Catholic’s eighth grade students for high school Spanish, according to middle school instructor, Heather Barber.

In the photo, an eighth grader shares his ‘yarn art’ project, a technique that originates from the Huichol people who are indigenous people of Mexico, displaying designs and symbols that are centuries old.

Barber states, “Awareness of another culture through such activities as virtual tours, listening exercises and special projects, such as ‘yarn art’ sparks student interest and increases respect for other world cultures.”

Barber adds, “Every eighth grader must take the nine-week course by the end of the school year.”
