Merle C. Wigfield, 84, of Clearfield died Dec., 28, 2017 at his home. Born Nov. 6, 1933, he was the son of Charles and Goldie (Smith) Wigfield.
Mr. Wigfield was employed by Kurtz Bros., as a truck driver and foreman. He retired as the warehouse manager after more than 40 years of service.
He was a lifetime member of the Clearfield Fire Co., First Ward, and he belonged to the American Legion.
He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 5, 1953 until Oct. 4, 1955. He received an honorable discharge.
Surviving are his daughter, Mary Ann Wigfield and her husband, Joseph B. Bitner of Clearfield and his companion of many years, Barbara Milligan.
He is also survived by three nephews, Gary C. (Kendra) Wigfield, Terry L. (Holly) Wigfield and Larry C. (Kathy) Tibbens, several cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet Cowdrick Wigfield, to whom he was wed Dec. 16, 1953; a son, Michael C. Wigfield; a sister, Charlotte Tibbens; Brother, Delford R. Wigfield; and a niece, Debra (Joseph) Dixon.
There will not be any public visitation or service.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Clearfield County SPCA, 275 21st St., Clearfield, PA 16830.
