George Wilson McGonigal, 89, of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in Duncansville and formerly of LeContes Mills, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.

Born Oct. 24, 1928 in Karthaus, he was the son of the late Charles LeRoy and Bessie Annette (Holt) McGonigal.

He was of the Christian faith. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for the River Hill Coal Co. and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, George McGonigal; three sisters, Grace Weaver, Helen Potter and Aredas Lanager; seven brothers, Ralph, Raymond, Leonard, Harold, James, Neil and Carl McGonigal; and one great-grandson, Michael Gavlock.

He is survived by two daughters, Peg Livergood and her husband, Jim of (Eden) Frenchville and Debra McGonigal of Woodland; three sons, Thomas McGonigal and his companion, Karen Cartwright of West Decatur and Anthony McGonigal and Roger McGonigal, both of LeContes Mills; one sister, Jean Troutman and her companion, Bill Richards of Claymont, Del.; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will follow at a later time.  Burial will be at the Oak Hill Memorial Cemetery in Pottersdale.
