Obituary Notice: Gerald “Gary” G. Hopkins

Gerald “Gary” G. Hopkins, 74, of Houtzdale died Monday, Nov. 6, 2017 at UPMC Altoona.  Born April 4, 1943 in Beulah, he was the son of the late Gust Joseph and Dora (Lindenberg) Hopkins.

He was a member of the Faith United Lutheran Church, Houtzdale, and the Houtzdale American Legion Freeberg Post No. 591. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He was employed by Piper Aircraft in Quehanna and retired from Corning Asahi in State College.

On Sept. 18, 1982, he married Millie (Luther) Hopkins, who survives in Houtzdale.

Also surviving are a son, Gerald M. Hopkins of Uniontown; a brother, James Hopkins and his wife, Jean of New Providence; a sister, Janice Bytheway and her husband, James of Gaithersburg, Md.; and a number nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two step-brothers, Robert and Donald Rodkey.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Faith United Lutheran Church, Houtzdale, with the Rev. Christine Roe officiating.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.

Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery, Ramey, with graveside military honors accorded by the Houtzdale American Legion Honor Guard.
