JUST IN: Jefferson Co. Man Facing Animal Cruelty Charges

RINGGOLD TOWNSHIP – A 79-year-old Jefferson County man, Elmer F. Reed, is facing animal cruelty charges, according to state police at Punxsutawney.

State police say on Oct. 6-7, a female discovered a cardboard box in the bed of a pick-up truck on Route 536 in Ringgold Township. It contained four deceased kittens and one living kitten.

State police located the truck’s owner, Reed, and interviewed him about the kittens. He said he didn’t want any more cats at his residence/barn and allegedly killed them.

State police say the one living kitten was given to the caller who planned to provide a home and medical treatment.
