Stott said the Red Cross is looking to begin a Home Fire Campaign in the East Side area of the borough.

Stott said the campaign will start the planning phase of the project and the Red Cross is hoping to begin on April 28.

Stott said the Red Cross will enlist volunteers who will go from house to house to install new smoke detectors and replace the batteries in existing smoke detectors.

She said the volunteers will also hand out information on fire protection and will educate the home owners.

Code Enforcement officer Larry Mack asked if the volunteers will be installing the smoke detectors according to code.

Stott said the goal is to have one smoke detector in every bedroom and at least one smoke detector on every floor.

Also at the meeting, the council recognized Richie Shaffer, who recently completed his Eagle Scout project.  Mayor James Schell said only 4 percent of all scouts are able to earn their Eagle Scout.

He said Shaffer’s project consisted of sanding, scraping, priming and repainting at the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre (CAST).
