Neil J. MacDonald,   96, of Clearfield died Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

He was born Aug. 1, 1921 in Ridgway, a son of the late Maurice and Mary (Keilocker) MacDonald.

Mr. MacDonald served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He was formerly employed at Stressly Monument Co. in St. Marys. 

He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 5 of Pittsburgh for nearly 70 years.  He retired Aug. 1, 1986. He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church.

He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Clearfield Council No. 409; Benevolent Protective Order of Elks No. 540; Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post No. 6; F. Michael Sicks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1785 of Clearfield; Loyal Order of Moose No. 97; and the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 812. 

Mr. MacDonald was also a member of the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Association and the Old Town Sportsmen’s Association. 

Lastly, the family would like to specifically thank the staff of Knickerbocker Villa for the excellent care that Mr. MacDonald received there.

He is survived by four children, Michael MacDonald and his wife, Linda of West Salem, Ohio, Charla MacDonald and her husband, Don of Russelton, Paul MacDonald and his wife, Linda of Alexandria, Va., and Charles MacDonald and his wife, Linda of Newtown, Va.; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; six sisters and brothers, Marjorie Robinson, Ann Kennedy, Ed MacDonald, Marion Drathman and Jim MacDonald, all of Ridgway, and Ruth Krizan of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Vassallo) MacDonald on May 31, 2002; a daughter, Sally MacDonald; a grandson, Aaron Ross; a great-granddaughter, Maria; and five sisters and brothers, Helen Powell, Grace Gregory, Joe MacDonald, Bill MacDonald and John MacDonald. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Fr. Brandon Kleckner as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield. 

Military honors will be accord at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield VFW and American Legion Post Honor Guard.
