Helen A. Vaughn, 88, of Atlantic died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg.
Mrs. Vaughn was born Jan. 10, 1929 in Houtzdale, the daughter of Mary (Mekis) Laskowsky.
She retired from the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center as a nurse’s aide after 20 years of service. Mrs. Vaughn was Methodist by faith.
She was a former union president at Mountain Laurel. She had also been secretary of her local union 2665 American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees for 10 years and president for five years.
She is survived by five children, Patti Freeman and her husband, Gene and Juanita Barker and her husband, Mike, all of Newark, Ohio, George Vaughn and his wife, Ronda of Curwensville, Susan Supenia and her husband, Clair of Houtzdale and Kim Alberts and her husband, Danny of Warren; a half-sister, Frances Lester; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Vaughn was preceded in death by her parents; her former, husband, Victor Vaughn, who died March 29, 1993 and to whom she was married Dec. 15, 1945; three half-sisters, Romaine Kitko, Mary Ann Gultney and Frances Laskowsky; two half-brothers, Patrick and Walter Laskowsky; and two great-grandsons, Jonathan Allison and Austin Whipple.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with the Rev. John White officiating. Burial will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park.
Friends will be received from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
