Harold Ellsworth Vaughn, 90, of Philipsburg died Monday, Sept. 4, 2017 at his home.

Born March 19, 1927 in West Decatur, he was a son of the late Ellsworth Noel and Marjorie Joy (Wood) Vaughn.

He spent most of his life working as a lumberjack. He had also worked at Navasky’s in Philipsburg and a steel mill in New York.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II. He enjoyed gardening, going to auctions, trains and spending time with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was first married to Jennie Mae (Goss) Vaughn, who died in 2003. He later married Margaret A. (Maines) Vaughn, who survives at home.

Surviving are 10 children, Marjorie Pearl Tubbs Knepp and her husband, Jeff, Harold William Vaughn III, Donald Lee Vaughn II, Timothy Ellsworth Vaughn II, Dana Noel Vaughn and Dean Sheldon Vaughn, all of Philipsburg; Brenda Marie Hohman and her husband, Paul of Gearhartville; Donna Joyce Schwartz of Athens, Ga., and her former husband, Howard Samuel Schwartz of Florida; Timothy Mark Vaughn and his companion, Tracy White of Supply, NC; and Candy Meria Vaughn and her companion, Kenny Carfley of Hyde.

Surviving are 16 grandchildren, Alexis VanBuren, Brandon Tubbs, Kyle Knepp, Eric Vaughn, Amber, Nicole and Tonya Hohman, Joy Mattocks, Amy Schwartz, Andrea, Casey and Drew Vaughn, Matthew and Katelyn Vaughn and Jenna and Erin Knepp; 24 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Leah Jane Waring and her husband, Luther of Carlisle and his mother-in-law, Gloria Maines of Philipsburg.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Harold Randoll “Randy” Vaughn; a brother, Donald R. Vaughn; and his father-in-law, William H. Maines.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Michelle R. Bodle officiating.

Burial and military honors will be at held at Mock’s Hill Cemetery, West Decatur.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
