Detour will be lifted with bridge opening
BIGLER TOWNSHIP – On Saturday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will open a new Route 53 bridge in Bigler Township, Clearfield County.
Crews have been working since mid-July to replace the old bridge and remove it from Clearfield County’s structurally deficient list.
The bridge spans Maplepole Run, near the village of Madera. An average of more than 1,600 vehicles crosses the bridge each day.
Once the new bridge is open to traffic, PennDOT will remove the official detour using Route 53, Route 453 and Route 729.
Through the week of Aug. 14, crews will be working to install guiderail to finish the project. During guiderail installation, drivers can expect to encounter lane closures and roadway flaggers enforcing alternate traffic patterns. Short travel delays should be expected.
LTT Trucking LLC of Renovo, Pa., has been the contractor on this $493,000 project. Overall project work included removal of the old bridge, placement of a new, pre-cast concrete box culvert, paving, guiderail updates and miscellaneous items.
