James A. Mitchell Jr., 91, of Glen Richey died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017 at his home.
Mr. Mitchell was born July 11, 1926 in Clearfield, the son of James A. Mitchell Sr., and Elsie J. (Kennedy) Mitchell.
He had worked for Robinson Clay and James T. Crissman; he retired in 1993 from Guelich Explosives.
Mr. Mitchell was Methodist by faith.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran who had served in the Philippines during World War II. Mr. Mitchell was a life member of the Clearfield VFW.
He enjoyed woodworking and loved his grandchildren and his dog, Buster.
He is survived by six children, Cathy Beckman and her husband, Fred and Jim Mitchell III and his wife, Cheryl, all of Olanta, Debra Clark and her husband, Robert of Glen Richey, Karen Arford and her husband, Ernie and Phyllis Mitchell, all of Indiana, Pa., and Mike Mitchell of Florida; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mitchell was the last member of his generation. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet (Pritchard) Mitchell; a granddaughter, Beth Ann O’Connor Welsh; three sisters, Phyllis Plourde, Ann Buffon and Mary Blake; and two brothers, George and Bob Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield with the Rev. John White officiating.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Clearfield Honor Guard. Burial will be in Mount Joy Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 pm. Saturday at the funeral home.
