Arthur “Art” Gresh, 95, of Ramey died Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Penn Highlands Dubois Hospital.

Born July 26, 1922, he was the son of the late Steve and Anna (Bobby) Gresh.  He lived in Ramey most of his life. 

On May 15, 1948, he married Julia Evanchuck, who preceded him in death Feb. 22, 1989.

After graduating from Madera High School, he worked in the CCC Camps in New Mexico and Texas. 

He then enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1942, where he spent his time as a top secret courier throughout England, France, Belgium and Germany. 

After the war, he was selected to play baseball in Paris for six months.  Upon returning to the states, he went to work in the steel mills in Pontiac, Mich., and Ambridge, Pa. 

After marrying, he returned to the family farm homestead, where he spent 17 years as a poultry farmer. 

Next he went to work for PPG Industries in Tipton, where he retired in 1985.  He enjoyed reading, music, dancing, baseball and nutrition.

He was a member of the St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ramey.

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Bill) Gudalis of Sykesville and Dorothy (Joel) Mounts of Treasure Lake, Dubois.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a long-time friend, Carole (Tina) Campbell of Coalport several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Anna; a brother, Dave of Smithmill; a sister, Janelle of Boardman, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., Ramey. Parastas will be sung at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ramey. The Rev. Anthony Balistreri will officiate.

Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Cemetery, Ramey.
