Celebrate National S’mores Day on Aug. 10 with Girl Scouts

CLEARFIELD — Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA) invites all girls in grades K-12 and their families to celebrate National S’mores Day on Aug. 10 at a free event at the VFW Picnic Grounds, 1102 Industrial Park Rd., Clearfield, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Girls do not need to be current Girl Scout members to attend.

In addition to making s’mores, girls and their families will enjoy hot dogs, fun activities and learn more about Girl Scouts and the organization’s mission of building courage, confidence and character in girls.

Girls will receive a free National S’mores Day patch if they’re registered for the 2017-18 Girl Scout year or if they register to join Girl Scouts at the event.

GSWPA staff will be on hand at the National S’mores Day event to help girls renew or join. Adults interested in becoming a volunteer are also invited to attend.

To register for the free event, call 800-248-3355 or e-mail customercare@gswpa.org.

S’mores are classic campfire treats that are rooted in Girl Scout history. The recipe for s’mores dates back to the 1925 Girl Scout Leader magazine and the 1927 Girl Scouts of the USA handbook, Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts, which featured a “Some More” recipe.
