BREAKING: Penelec Planning Power Outage to do System Enhancements

CLEARFIELD – Penelec has planned a power outage in order to do system enhancements, according to Mark Durbin, spokesperson.

On Friday beginning at 11 p.m., Penelec personnel will be doing work to upgrade substation equipment in Clearfield to enhance service reliability for customers in the area.

The work is scheduled to continue until 3 a.m. Saturday, but it’s hoped that it will be done sooner.

“Overall, about 2,400 customers in Clearfield will be affected by this planned outage,” said Durbin.

“Our representatives have informed Clearfield Borough, Clearfield County Department of Emergency Services and some local businesses about the outage and why the work needs to be done.

“We also sent out a telephone message earlier today to customers that will be affected by this outage.”

Durbin added that, “In most cases, the work we do does not involve a service interruption.  However, the nature of this project necessitated our having to temporarily disconnect service to ensure the repairs could be made safely.

“To minimize the inconvenience, we try to schedule these planned events in the late night hours when the majority of customers will be sleeping.”
