PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Clearfield Chiefs concluded the regular season portion of their Clearfield/Jefferson Co. League schedule with a road trip doubleheader Saturday against Brookville. The host team took the opener, 7-4, but the Chiefs roared back in the nightcap, winning 16-1 in 5 innings.
After rain delayed the start of the doubleheader by more than an hour, the first game was deadlocked 4-4 entering the fifth inning. In the bottom of the frame Brookville strung together a walk and three hits off Clearfield’s Will Myers and held the Chiefs off the board the rest of the way for the 7-4 win. Lance Pennington was the winning pitcher with Myers suffering the loss. Seth Bumbarger had two hits for the Chiefs.
The Chiefs unleased a 20-hit barrage against Brookville in the second game, for a 16-1 mercy-rule victory in five innings. Leading the offensive onslaught for Clearfield were Reese Wilson and Allan Myers, both with four safeties and 3 RBIs. Seth Bumbarger, Bryce Timko, and Cade Walker chipped in with two hits each. Eli Glass knocked in three runs and was the winning pitcher as well, surrendering one lone run in three innings of work. Timko pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
With the split, Clearfield’s record is 8-5 and they will now meet DuBois in the first round of the playoffs Wednesday evening. The other playoff semifinal that night will have Brookville hosting Curwensville.
