Darrel L. Waite, 70, of Houtzdale died Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona.
Born July 10, 1946 in Philipsburg, he was the son of Orrie and Ethel (Wilkes) Waite.
He was Protestant by faith. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Waite was a member of the Houtzdale American Legion Post No. 591 and Houtzdale Loyal Order of Moose No. 327.
He enjoyed fishing, flea marketing and collecting antiques. He was employed as a laborer for Piper Air Craft and retired from Dan Parson Tree Service of Portersville.
He is survived by a brother, Duwayne Waite and his wife, Mary Ann of Clearfield; a sister, Karen Godown and her husband, Jim of Houtzdale; two sisters-in-law, Joann Waite of Lovettsville, Va., and Darlene Waite of Punxsutawney; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Waite was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gary and Gerald Waite.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale, with the Rev. Lee Cowfer officiating.
Burial will follow in the American Legion Cemetery, Brisbin, with full military honors accorded by the Houtzdale American Legion Honor Guard.
Family and friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
