Month-long detour starts July 5
BIGLER TOWNSHIP – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will begin work soon to replace a Route 53 bridge in Bigler Township, Clearfield County. Replacing the bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Clearfield County’s structurally deficient list.
The bridge spans Maplepole Run, near the village of Madera. The existing 19-foot bridge dates from 1928 and carries an average of more than 1,600 vehicles each day.
Work will get under way on July 5 and the bridge will be closed. At that time, an official detour will be in effect, with drivers directed to use Route 53, Route 453, and Route 729. The detour will remain in place through July 31.
Overall project work will include removal of the old bridge, placement of a new, pre-cast concrete box culvert, paving, guiderail updates and miscellaneous items.
All work is weather and schedule dependent. LTT Trucking LLC of Renovo, PA is the contractor on this $493,000 project. Drivers are reminded to follow detour signing, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.
