CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Salary Board approved a request from Sheriff Wes Thurston at Tuesday’s meeting.

Thurston requested the creation of two temporary deputy sheriff positions to be effective June 12 and June 19, respectively.

The positions are not to exceed 90 days and are to be paid at the contracted rate. Thurston said his office has already filled one position.

Human Resources Director Marianne Sankey noted that one temporary position was being created due to a medical leave. She said the county would be paying for two positions as a result.

She said the county would need to figure out where the funds would come from for the temporary position.

Thurston said it would still be cheaper than paying overtime. Board members agreed and subsequently approved Thurston’s request.
