HYDE — Jake Sorbera fashioned a five-inning no-hitter and the Clearfield American Legion baseball team batted around twice for a 12-1 win over Curwensville in Jefferson County League action at the Bison Sports Complex Monday evening.
Sorbera struck out eight Bucks and walked a pair.
He lost the shutout in the third inning on the free passes, the Chiefs’ lone misplay and a dropped fly ball that resulted in a forceout at third base.
Clearfield (2-1) parlayed three hits with four walks for five runs off Noah Von Gunden in the first inning.
Will Myers’s two-run single was the key blow. Eli Glass and Bryce Timko contributed RBI singles and Seth Bumbarger walked with the bases loaded.
The Chiefs stretched their lead to 10-1 in the third frame as Josh Terry was unable to record an out, giving up three walks and run-scoring singles by Bumbarger and Sorbera.
Justin Fedder greeted Christian Bakaysa, the third Curwensville (0-2) hurler, with a two-run single to left and Zane Morgan capped the outburst with a sacrifice fly.
Sacrifice flies by Timko and Sorbera set up the Mercy Rule finish the latter punctuated with three strikeouts on 11 pitches in the top of the fifth.
Bumbarger led the Chiefs with two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored. Will Myers, Timko, Sorbera and Fedder drove in two runs apiece.
Clearfield will be back at it Tuesday, hosting Brookville at 6 p.m. at the BSC.
