CLEARFIELD – Three Clearfield County seniors were recently awarded the Jeffrey Buck Memorial Scholarship.
Seniors from the school districts in Clearfield County were given the opportunity to apply for these scholarships.
Eligible applicants were required to be attending post-secondary education and to be actively volunteering with a fire or emergency medical services station in Clearfield County.
Applicants were asked to answer two questions: “Have you ever made a difference in your community” and “What does it mean to be a volunteer.”
Matthew Agosti was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. He is a graduate of the DuBois High School and a volunteer with the Penfield Fire Department.
He will be attending Penn State University in the fall, where he plans to major in mechanical engineering.
Lauren Stover was awarded a $500 scholarship. She is a graduate of the Clearfield High School and a volunteer with the Bigler-Jackson-Woodland Fire Company.
She will be attending Lock Haven University in the fall, where she plans to major in nursing.
Matthew Yeckley was also awarded a $500 scholarship. He is a graduate of Glendale High School and a volunteer with the Glendale Volunteer Fire Company in Coalport.
He will be attending Penn State University, where he plans to major in pre-med.
Organizers plan to award this scholarship annually in memory of Jeffrey Buck, who was killed in the line of duty in March of 2015.
