MEN’S GOLF
BELLE VERNON — Junior Jason Thorp (Curwensville) of Thiel posted rounds of 74 Friday and 79 Saturday at the Cedarbrook Golf Club to finish fourth in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Spring Championships.
Thorp earned All-PAC Second Team honors by claiming eighth place with a 72-hole total of 310 that included back-to-back 79s in the PAC Fall Championships at the Avon Lakes Golf Course near Warren, Ohio.
He was on the All-PAC First Team last year.
Thiel wound up sixth in the eight-team field with weekend totals of 330 and 325 for a 1,324 aggregate.
Thorp carded rounds in the 70s in seven of eight rounds this spring, with the highlight a 72 in the Saint Vincent Invitational at the Champion Lakes Golf Club that matched his career low.

SOFTBALL
LOCK HAVEN — Junior pitcher Rachel Hoffman (Clearfield) was a tough-luck loser as Clarion fell to Lock Haven 2-0 in its season finale Friday.
Hoffman pitched a complete-game six-hitter with five strikeouts and had one of the two hits by the Golden Eagles, who finished 7-41 with a 3-15 record in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Central Division.
She also was the losing hurler three days earlier in a five-inning, 13-1 home loss to Mercyhurst.
Hoffman pitched four innings and gave up 11 hits and seven runs, all earned. She had two strikeouts and one walk.
Unofficially, Hoffman was 5-16 with a 4.31 earned run average in 23 appearances, including 21 starts with 10 complete games.
She pitched 130 innings with 88 strikeouts, 41 walks and seven hit batsmen.
Opponents totaled 167 hits and 103 runs, 80 earned.

HUNTINGDON — Sidelined since early April because of a shoulder injury, freshman pitcher Raeleigh Redden (Clearfield) made her seventh appearance for Juniata in a 7-3 loss to visiting Elizabethtown at West End Sunday.
She worked two innings with one strikeout and one walk, giving up four hits and two runs, both earned.
The Eagles won the first game, 4-3, in eight innings to clinch the final spot for the Landmark Conference Championships that begins Friday in Bethlehem.
Juniata, seeded No. 4 because of a March 26 doubleheader sweep of Scranton that was the tie-breaker after the teams tied for fourth place at 8-4, will meet regular season champ and host Moravian (11-1) in the 11 a.m. opener.
No. 2 seed Susquehanna (10-2) and No. 3 Catholic (7-5) will square off in the other first round game at 1 p.m. The double-elimination tourney concludes Saturday.
Redden is 2-1 with a 4.67 earned run average, allowing 16 runs, 12 earned, in 18 innings. She has struck out two batters, walked 10 and hit one.
BASEBALL
DUBOIS — Sophomore catcher/infielder Josh Sorbera (Clearfield) had one hit and freshman pitcher Brandon Orsich (Clearfield) worked one inning for Penn State DuBois in a 10-4 non-conference loss to Alfred (N.Y.) State at Showers Field last Wednesday.
Orsich struck out two of the three batters he faced.
The Lions concluded their regular season with a 10-inning, 2-1 win over Penn College and will go into the second round of the PSUAC Championships this weekend with a 20-11 record.
Penn State DuBois finished atop the West Division standings at 11-1 and will meet East Division runner-up Penn State Schuylkill Sunday at noon on the Penn State Scranton diamond. East Division champ Penn State Brandywine will play West Division third-place finisher Penn State Mont Alto at 10 a.m.
Sorbera has played in 17 games and is hitting .367 (11-for-30) with one double and six runs batted in.
Orsich is 2-2 with a 6.00 earned run average for 24 innings in 10 appearances, giving up 26 hits and 22 runs, 16 earned. He has whiffed 11 while walking three and hitting one.

ALTOONA — Junior pitcher Kurtis Krise (Clearfield) worked in one of Penn State Altoona’s six Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference games last week.
He was one of three Lions who pitched in a 25-2 loss to No. 13-ranked La Roche at the Juniata Civic Field Wednesday, surrendering seven hits, two walks and seven runs, all earned, in 2-1/3 innings. He struck out one and hit two.
Penn State Altoona swept twinbills from Hilbert, 9-5 and 9-3, Tuesday and Pitt Bradford, 8-7 and 7-6, Saturday the first AMCC Championship Tournament berth since 2014. The Lions finished in fifth place at 9-7 and take an 18-19 record into the tourney that begins this weekend.
Krise (1-0) has pitched in 10 games, with two starts. He has an 8.06 earned run average for 22-1/3 innings with 12 strikeouts, 11 walks and four hit batsmen. He has allowed 37 hits and 27 runs, 20 earned.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
SHIPPENSBURG — Senior sprinter/jumper Jessica Shomo (Clearfield) leaped a season-best 5.03 meters (16 feet, 6 inches) in the long jump and finished eighth in the 100-meter dash in 12.48 seconds at the 13th annual Paul Kaiser Classic in Seth Grove Stadium Saturday.
She placed 19th among the 43 entries in the long jump. The 100 attracted 49 sprinters from 21 schools.
Shomo also ran the second leg for the Golden Eagle 4×100 relay foursome that claimed fourth place in the 10-team race with a clocking of 49.10 seconds.

LORETTO — One of four St. Francis seniors honored before the Red Flash Open Saturday, Rebecca Johnson (Curwensville) placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:11.23.
Sophomore thrower Sarah Lash (Clearfield) placed in two field events, fourth in the javelin with a toss of 30.48 meters (119 feet, 8-1/4 inches) and 11th in the hammer throw with a heave of 32.67 meters (107 feet, 2-1/4 inches).
