Shaw Library Now Offers New Features

CLEARFIELD – There are a number of new and exciting features at the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library that you may not be aware of, according to Jayme Stonbraker, library director.

Did you know that the library now accepts credit cards?   Did you know that you can access your account online?

Or did you know that you can now donate to the library or its memorial book fund online through its Web site?

“In the past, most small libraries have been known to only accept cash or check, and the Shaw Library was no exception,” said Stonbraker.

Up until recently, library staff could only process cash or checks, but they decided that it was time to make things easier for patrons and to start accepting credit cards.

With this new feature, the library can now accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.  As long as you meet the $1 minimum requirement, you can now pay for copies, faxes and other items with your credit card.

Stonbraker said many patrons have also been asking for online access to their accounts, and library staff members have finally taken the steps to make that happen.

Everyone with a library card now has the ability to place holds online, view current checkouts, see if there are any fines and even renew items as long as they haven’t been previously renewed or reserved.

According to Stonbraker, by using the library’s online catalog (in the library or at home), you can easily log in using the “Log In” button in the top right corner.

To find the catalog, go to the library Web site at www.ShawLibrary.org, type any letter or title into the catalog search bar, and the library catalog will open in a new tab.

From there, you can click “Log In” to access your account. But first, Stonbraker said you will need your PIN along with your card number to log in, so you can give the library staff a call at 814-765-3271, Facebook message staff or send an e-mail at staff@shawlibrary.org.

In addition to now accepting credit cards in the library, Stonbraker said the staff can accept them online as well along with Paypal.

If you click “Donations” under the “Donate” tab on the library’s Web site, www.ShawLibrary.org, there is a form on the right-hand side that allows you to choose if you wish to make a general donation or a memorial fund donation.

You can fill in the information and use the white arrows at the top of the form to navigate between form pages.  There are just three, short pages to fill out, and then a receipt will be e-mailed to you shortly after hitting the green “Donate” button.

“There is always lots going on at Shaw Public Library, so be sure to follow us on Facebook and check our Web site regularly,” said Stonbraker.

“Our annual Summer Reading program is just around the corner, and we have a number of fun programs lined up for all ages, so be sure to check in and see what’s happening.”
