Obituary Notice: Francis E. “Fran” Gutowski

Francis E. “Fran” Gutowski, 72, of DuBois died Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born March 31, 1945, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Rachel M. (Cheslock) Gutowski. 

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, who served during the Vietnam War in France.

On July 20, 1968, he married Rita (Novario) Gutowski.  She survives.

He retired from Penelec as an office supervisor after 28 years of service.  After retirement, he was the owner/operator of Nelson’s Grocery on Maple Avenue.

He was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, where he was a member of the funeral lunch team. 

He was a past board member of the DuBois Area United Way and the American Red Cross.  He was a member of Compassionate Friends. 

His passion was cooking and taking care of people, but above all, he loved being with his family.

He is survived by five daughters, Julia Gutowski, Jennifer Nixon and her husband, Donald, Mary Shaffer and her husband, Brian, Frances “Franny” Gallagher and her husband, Brian and Nicki Gutowski and her companion, Nick Forsythe, all of DuBois; two sisters, Helena Leair and her husband, Clarence and Mary Gutowski, both of Weedville; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph and Henry Gutowski.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Baronick Funeral Home and Crematorium Inc.

A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer and Fr. B. LaMonte Sayers co-celebrating.

Burial will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
