CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc., along with area local officials, participated in Community Champions Week, formerly known as Mayors for Meals.

This is part of the national March for Meals Campaign, organized by the Meals on Wheels Association of America and designed to raise awareness for senior hunger.

This year, seven local officials took time out of their schedules to hand deliver Meals on Wheels and visit consumers throughout Clearfield County.

Participating officials included Clearfield County Commissioners John Sobel and Antonio Scotto, Clearfield Mayor James Schell, Pennsylvania State Rep. Tommy Sankey, DuBois Mayor Gary Gilbert, Pennsylvania State Rep. Matt Gabler and Clearfield County Deputy Sheriff Mike Churner.

This year’s event is the 15th annual nationwide celebration of the local Meals on Wheels program.  In Clearfield County, the program serves more than 163,000 meals per year.

In addition, more than 24,000 meals per year are served at local senior centers.  Agency staff members urge people of Clearfield County to support the Meals on Wheels and More program through local fundraisers.

The local support of the community is essential to meeting the needs of the older adult consumers in the area.

The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc. would like to thank all the officials for donating their time and making the Community Champions Week possible.  The consumers always enjoy the opportunity to meet and visit with their local officials.

Programs and services of the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging are funded in part by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc., Mature Resources Foundation and local and consumer contributions.
