Linda H. Rust, 62, daughter of Gay (Rowles) and the late Sgt. First Class (Ret.) Gordon E. Hummel, died at her home in Midland, Texas on April 6, 2017 of cancer. 

Born Oct. 26, 1954 in Tokyo, Japan as a military child, she got to see the world, including living in Italy and Germany. 

She was a 1972 graduate of the Clearfield High School. She was a 1976 graduate of Penn State and a 1978 graduate of the University of Tennessee, earning a Master of Business Administration degree. 

Working for Exxon Corp. in Houston, she met a fellow accountant from Virginia named Ken Rust. They married in May of 1984 in Grand Junction, Colo., and then welcomed two sons. 

She continued her career as an accountant and actively volunteered in the community at her children’s schools, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. 

A life-long lover of animals, in addition to her sons, she raised dogs, cats, gerbils, beta fish and a herd of desert box tortoises. 

She enjoyed spending time in the mountains and attending the theater. She was an avid reader and supported the arts. She focused on being healthy and protecting the environment. 

Over the years, she touched many lives and enjoyed making the world a better place. She was an excellent wife, mother, volunteer, parishioner and friend.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Rust of Midland, Texas; son, Owen (Brittany) Rust of Midland, Texas; son Colin (Porschia) Rust of Sugar Land, Texas; mother, Gay Hummel of Clearfield; and sister, Laurel Hummel of Anchorage, Alaska. She is also survived by two grandsons, Aiden Rust and Theodore Rust.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests support for Hospice of Midland, Texas, Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts of America or any charity dedicated to the welfare of animals or the environment.
