SPRING MILLS — Penns Valley parlayed 11 hits and six walks into an 11-4 Mountain League win over visiting Clearfield in a high school girls softball game Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Bison gained a brief 2-1 lead on a Lady Ram error after two-out singles by Makayla Ross, Kyra Mollura and Molly Sartin had loaded the bases in the second inning.
The Lady Rams took control with five runs in the bottom of the third.
Lydia Collison, who had blasted a leadoff home run in the first, triggered the rally with a double, and Caroline Collison, Ryan Thompson and Cassidy Stover followed with hits to chase Lady Bison starter Abby Fedder.
Reliever Erica Hanes walked one batter and hit another before Harley Hess drove in the final two runs with a single.
Three unearned runs increased the Lady Rams’ lead to 9-2 in the fourth inning. Two runs scored on a two-out outfield misplay and the other on Abby Thom’s double.
Penns Valley (2-6, 1-5 ML) tacked on two runs in the sixth after Fedder returned to the circle with two runners aboard and one out.
Clearfield (0-6, 0-5 ML) finally got to Hess in the seventh when Lindsay Hand was hit by a pitch, Hanes singled, Brooke Cline doubled for one run and Aspen Bishop picked up an RBI via a groundout.
Hess, who relieved Emma Kubalak in the second inning, got the win, striking out four while allowing four hits, one walk and two runs in 4-1/3 innings. Kubalak returned to notch the last two outs to total 2-2/3 innings with three hits and two unearned runs.
Fedder had a double for the Lady Bison.
She was the losing pitcher, charged with seven hits, one walk and five runs in 2-2/3 innings. Hanes gave up four hits, five walks and six runs, three earned, in 3-1/3 innings.
Thompson had a pair of singles for the Lady Rams.
The Lady Bison will host Philipsburg-Osceola Tuesday.
