CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners recognized the importance of local libraries at their regular board meeting Tuesday.

The commissioners proclaimed the week of April 9-15 National Library Week per request of Paula Collins, director of the Clearfield County Public Library.

Collins thanked the commissioners for their past, present and future support of local libraries.

“Even in an age of high tech, instant communications and social networking, libraries are still very important,” said Commissioner John A. Sobel.

“… And, libraries take advantage of all the new modern advances in communications to enhance the services they provide.”

Sobel said a lot of people, especially children, still visit their local libraries.

According to its Web site, the Clearfield County Public Library exists to provide quality library resources that inform, educate, entertain and enrich all the residents of Clearfield County.

The county’s public library consists of the Curwensville Public Library and the Clearfield County Bookmobile.

The commissioners’ proclamation, which was read during the meeting by Sobel, said the Clearfield County Public Library has been a “trusted and treasured institution.”

It also said the library’s staff is looking beyond its traditional role to provide opportunities for engagement and services that will connect communities and needs.

The proclamation encouraged local residents to visit their local libraries, explore what’s new there and to interact with librarians.
