School Bus Involved in Bell Twp. Crash in Jefferson Co.

BELL TOWNSHIP – A school bus carrying 18 juveniles was involved in a crash Friday morning on Cloe Rossiter Road in Bell Township.

According to state police at Punxsutawney, the crash occurred at 8:17 a.m. near the road’s intersection with Cloe Cemetery Road.

State police say a school bus operated by Melinda S. Himes, 44, of Punxsutawney and a Ford Explorer operated by John. H. Humble Jr., 68, of Rochester Mills, Pa., were traveling north when “white-out” conditions occurred.

Humble slowed down due to the conditions and limited visibility. At the same time, the bus was approaching his vehicle from behind. However, Himes was unable to slow down enough before the bus impacted the left, rear of Humble’s vehicle.

According to state police, the school bus and Humble’s vehicle sustained minor damage. Neither Himes nor Humble was injured in the crash. Three juveniles on the bus were taken to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital with minor injuries.
