DuBois City Council Discusses Main Street Project

DUBOIS – Work will take place on Main Street in DuBois, according to City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio.

City officials are currently in the process of obtaining quotes for the Main Street project. In the meantime, workers will begin clearing trees.

It was noted that trees were posing a complicated issue for the city.  Trees, located between the sidewalk and roadway, would clearly fall upon the city for removal.

However, there was some debate as to the circumstances that would require the property owner’s permission. There are also a few large trees that pose other challenges.

“For the one quote, we got $5,000, just for the tree,” said Suplizio.

For those trees or any with large branches over homes, city officials are considering working with the property owners.

In other business, DuBois Fire Chief Joe Mitchell reported the new rescue engine has been delivered. He said it would still be a couple weeks before it was put into service.

City Solicitor Toni Cherry read the first reading of Council Bill 1919 regarding the closing of roadways at the location of the new downtown Sheetz.

The second reading and official adoption of the ordinance will take place Feb. 27.  Groundbreaking is expected to happen in March.
