HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry released its employment situation report for November.
Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate was down one-tenth of a percentage point from October to 5.7 percent.
Pennsylvania’s civilian labor force was down 2,000 over the month to 6,528,000. Resident employment increased by 1,000 and the unemployment count declined by 3,000.
Total nonfarm jobs were up 3,300 to 5,895,300 in November. The gain was restricted to private service providing jobs, which reached a record high of 4,374,100.
The two largest movements among supersectors were both gains that set record highs – education & health services (+7,400) and professional & business services (+5,000). The largest volume drop was in trade, transportation & utilities, down 2,600.
Over the year, total nonfarm jobs in Pennsylvania were up 38,900 (+0.7 percent). Six of the 11 supersectors added jobs from last November. The largest increase over the past twelve months was in education & health services (+20,900), while the largest decline was in mining & logging (-7,600).
