Sharon Lee Muir-Kerner, 66, of Hawk Run and formerly of Wattsburg, Pa., lost her courageous battle against cancer Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016 at home surrounded by loved ones.

She was born Jan. 6, 1950 in Philipsburg to the late Gerald J. and Lois E. (Kerr) Muir. 

She is survived by her children, Michael and Deanna of Erie, Lindy Singer of Malibu, Calif., and Matthew and Jason Kerner of Buckhannon, W.Va., and a granddaughter, Katie Kerner of Shinnston, W.Va.

She is survived by brothers and sisters, Caroline (William) Slother and Kathleen (Terry) Smeal, both of Hawk Run, John (Teri) Muir of Erie, Mary Beth (Mark) Swears of Chesapeake, Va., and Keith (Dianne) Muir of Towanda; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Kim Muir of Philipsburg, Jack (Betty) Kerner and Zyg Mazanowski, both of Indianapolis, Ind., and Alice Sturdivant of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her best friend and husband of 39 years, David P. Kerner, on Sept. 6, 2015 in Erie. Pa.; two brothers, Richard and Scott Muir; a sister-in-law, Karen Mazanowski; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

She was a 1967 graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School. She moved to Erie, Pa., and worked at Copes-Vulcon for several years. She then retired from Eriez Magnetics after 32 years in January of 2016. 

She was a member of the St. Joseph Church Bread of Life Community in Erie, where her love of music led her to be an active cantor.  

Anyone knowing her knew how she gave selflessly of her time, talents, heart and soul for others.  She helped the homeless, outreach programs or with holiday gift baskets just to name a few. She was a true person of faith and will be sadly missed by all.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 400 South Fourth St., Philipsburg, with Father John Gibbons as celebrant.

Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the funeral mass at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Philipsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
