Obituary Notice: John C. Burkett Sr.

John C. Burkett Sr., 84, of DuBois and formerly of Bellwood, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016 at the DuBois Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 20, 1932 in Smithtown, Jefferson County, he was the son of the late William F. and Margaret (Bayer) Burkett.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who had served in the Korean War.

On April 20, 1956, he married Marjorie Ann (Palumbo) Burkett.  She preceded him in death in 2012.

He was a draftsman for F.L. Smith Machine in Ducansville for 30 years.  He was a member of the Bellwood American Legion.

He is survived by four children, John Burkett Jr. and his wife, Deb of Luthersburg, Melinda Lucas and her husband, Michael of Houtzdale, Matthew Burkett and his wife, Gayle of Baltimore, Ohio and Mary Treece and her husband, Brian of Saltsburg; a sister, Lullie Belle McGranor of Elyria, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margaret Burkett and Catherine “Tiny” Tanner; and four brothers, Fred, Russell, Melvin and Ronald Burkett.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of service at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Smith officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the funeral home. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.

Memorials may be placed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
