CLEARFIELD – An existing business is opening the doors to a “spin-off” business looking to start building in Clearfield later this winter.

At Thursday’s meeting, the Clearfield Borough Council voted to approve consolidating three lots on Technology Drive.

The lots, formerly Fulesday Machine Shop, the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Meals on Wheels property and a parking lot are owned by the Pennsylvania Grain Processing ethanol plant. The consolidation will allow PGP to lease the property to Continental Carbonics.

Continental Carbonics plans to build a facility next to the PGP plant to capture the carbon dioxide emissions produced by the PGP plant and will turn the CO2 into dry ice.

“We’re very excited by this development,” Code Enforcement Officer Larry Mack said. “They were looking at several sites on the east coast to build this facility and they chose to come here.”

Mack said the permitting process for the new company has begun and Continental Carbonics is hoping to break ground on the new facility in February or early March.

Also at the meeting, the council voted to approve:
