Obituary Notice: Cecilia Eperjessy Dutra

Cecilia Eperjessy Dutra, 100, of Grampian died late Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois after a brief illness.

Born Feb. 5, 1916 in Johnstown, she was the daughter of Stephen and Mary (Gyurisin) Eperjessy. 

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian, where she was a long-term Sacristan, coordinator of religious education, a member of St. Theresa Guild and the church choir.

She was a den mother for the Boy Scouts of America, a long-term caregiver to many family and friends and a member of the Grampian Community Choir.  She also had a tremendous talent and love for art for which she was recognized on multiple occasions.

She wed James Allison Dutra on Feb. 18, 1941 and by whom she was preceded in death in 1963. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Richard and Dyke Dutra; a brother, Dr. Ernest Eperjessy; and two child siblings, Ibolya and Stephen Eperjessy.

Surviving are a son, Joel Dutra and his wife, Rebecca “Becky” of Grampian and five grandchildren in whom she was very proud, Dr. Diana Dutra Peters and her husband, Andrew of Rockton, Christina Dutra Cummings and her husband, Adam of Curwensville and Heather Dutra Mendoza, Jacob Dutra and Richard Dutra, all of Tennessee.

Also surviving are a sister, Charlotte Varner, age 106, of DuBois; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Dutra of Baxter, Tenne.; and a nephew, Robert Eperjessy of San Jose, Calif.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian with Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Grampian.

Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville. 

A Rosary will be recited by members of St. Theresa Guild at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests contributions be made to St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church, 461 Main St., P.O. Box F, Grampian, PA 16838.
