Clearfield YMCA Lists Upcoming Programs, Events

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield YMCA has announced a listing of upcoming programs and events.

It will hold an American Red Cross lifeguarding course Dec. 27-30. The course will be held at the YMCA from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

This course includes everything required to become a certified lifeguard and to work in an aquatic setting. The cost for the course is $200 for members/$275 for non-members.

It will also hold adult and pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED courses from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Nov. 17, Dec. 8 and Dec. 22. The cost is $50 per person. To register, please stop in or call 814-765-5521.

The Clearfield YMCA will hold its “Freeze Your Gizzard” 5K on Jan. 28 at Parker Dam State Park. This event kicks off its annual YMCA WinterFest events.

The race begins at 10 a.m. at the beach house, and it is all about fun. You can wear your craziest hat or sports-inspired costume while trekking through the frozen tundra and enjoying the beautiful wintry scenery at Parker Dam State Park.

Unique race awards will be given to the most unique hat, most creative costume, fastest male/female runners, runner who travelled the furthest, the oldest and youngest runners and more.

All participants registered by Jan. 21 will receive running gloves. Early registration is $12; late/race day is $17.

The Clearfield YMCA will hold its first indoor triathlon Feb. 26, 2017. You can swim, bike and run into the New Year.

You can beat the winter blues and challenge yourself to something new and exciting. If you can run/walk, bike and swim (no matter the pace) you can do this, according or organizers.

All participants will swim 15 minutes in the pool, bike 15 minutes on the espresso bikes and run/walk 15 minutes on the treadmill. The goal is to try to cover as much distance as possible during the 45 minutes.

Finisher medals and T-shirts will be given to everyone who participates in the event. Complementary swim caps will be provided for every participant to use during the event.

Refreshments will be provided. The cost is $25 for members/$30 non-members. Registration deadline is Feb. 13 with a limit of 40 participants.
