Obituary Notice: Evelyn (Lashinsky) Novak

Evelyn (Lashinsky) Novak of Smithmill died Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 at the Colonial Courtyard in Tyrone.

Born in Smithmill, she was the daughter of the late Wasco and Anna (Semetkosky) Lashinsky. 

She married Stanley Francis Novak in New York City; he preceded her in death Dec., 18, 1997.

Mrs. Novak was a member of the St. Barbara’s Polish National Catholic Church in Houtzdale and a member of the Women’s Guild of the church.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Novak worked at the Conrad Edison Hotel in New York City and later at James Industries in Hollidaysburg where she made slinkies.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Barno and Ann Richtscheit; four brothers, Andrew, Frank, Jack and Paul Lashinsky; one grandson, Carl Stanley Novak; and a great-granddaughter, Chasity Novak.

She is survived by one daughter, Constance A. Bickle and her husband, Gary of Bath, Pa.; one son, James R. Novak Sr. and his wife, Carol of Tyrone; and four sisters, Helen Tutokey, Martha Tanish and Marie Lidgett, all of Smithmill, and Ella Jane Longenecker of Tyrone. 

She is also survived by five grandchildren, James Novak Jr., Billie Jo Miller, Rhonda Novak, Sharon King and Stephanie Riley; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Barbara’s Polish National Catholic Church in Houtzdale, with Father Scott J. Lill as celebrant.  Burial will be at St. Barbara’s Polish National Catholic Cemetery in Houtzdale.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills.

A vigil will be held by Father Lill at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
