Robert J. McCartney, 88, of Grampian died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 at his home. He was born Feb. 19, 1928, a son of the late Thomas L. and Dellaphine (Clark) McCartney.

Mr. McCartney retired from North American Refractories Company of Curwensville in 1990 after 39 years.

A veteran of Korean War, he served with the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Grampian.

He is survived by Doris and two daughters, Sharon Fetchu and her husband, Mike of Madera and Sheila McCartney of Baltimore, Md.

He is survived by six grandchildren, Jim Fetchu, Mike Fetchu, Ann Fetchu, Charlie Lechner, Mary Lechner and Ruth Lechner and one great-granddaughter, Lindsay Fetchu.

Mr. McCartney is survived by siblings, Richard McCartney and his wife, Janis; John McCartney and his wife, Bessie; Charles McCartney and his wife, Mary; Mary Jane Crandell; Alice Del Grippo and her husband, Rocko; Margaret Proud; Patricia Shaw and her husband, Jan; and Thomas McCartney and his wife, Sandy.

He is also survived by four step-grandchildren, Jay B. Solley and his wife, Betty of Big Pine Key, Fla., Yvonne Parry of Grampian, Sidney Solley and Cara of Niagara Falls, NY and Roscoe Solley and Grace of Jonesboro, Ga.; seven step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary E. (Harman) McCartney, on Oct. 7, 1990; an infant daughter, Dellaphine Sharon; two brothers, William and Donald McCartney; and four sisters, Helen Guerriero, Elizabeth Padgett and two infants.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Grampian, with Father John Miller as celebrant.  Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Hahne Cancer Center, 100 Hospital Ave., DuBois; the Curwensville Moose Lodge No. 268, 945 Bailor Dr., Curwensville; or to the Curwensville VFW Post 842, 19 River St., Curwensville.
