Obituary Notice: Dortha B. Sankey

Dortha B. Sankey, 78, of Clearfield died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 at Ridgeview Elder Care.

She was born April 29, 1938, the daughter of the late Mervil W. and M. Lucille (Snyder) Bell. On Sept. 29, 1962, she married John R. Sankey, who survives.

She, along with her husband, owned and operated Sanview Dairy Farm in Goshen Township.

She previously was employed several places throughout the years, including, the Clearfield Extension Office, as a teacher’s aide at Clearfield Schools, as a sales clerk at CVS Pharmacy and The Progress in the insertion department.

She was a member of Clearfield First Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending the Clearfield County Fair, where for 25 years her family showed their dairy cattle.

She was also an active parent and supporter of the Clearfield FFA Chapter. Her and John hosted many picnics over the years for the Pennsylvania Farmers Association, the Harvester Silo Company, FFA Chapter and 4H Clubs.

She enjoyed sewing, going to craft shows, shopping, visiting with family and friends and swinging or sitting on the porch at the farm and watching the family’s activities.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, John R. Sankey; two children, James Sankey and Valerie and her husband, Jim Flegal, all of Clearfield; two sisters, Alice and her husband, Jerry Shaffner of Clearfield and Betty and her husband, Tim Junod of Mahaffey; nephews, Joshua, Dustin and Zachary Quigley and Benjamin Junod; and nieces, Sherry L. Dixon and her husband, Tim and Megan and Abby Junod.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Joyce L. Quigley.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. An additional hour of viewing will be held from 10 a.m. Thursday until the hour of service.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery.
