Leo C. Karoleski, 93, of DuBois died Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Born March 23, 1923, he was the son of the late Stanley and Lottie (Maletski) Karoleski.
On Aug. 16, 1947 in DuBois, he married Ethel M. (Costello) Karoleski. She preceded him in death July 8, 1997. He then married Dorothy Lepeonka and she preceded him in death, as well.
He was a graduate of DuBois Area High School and the DuBois Business College.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who had served in World War II.
He retired from Halls Motor Transit Company as the DuBois terminal manager after many years of service.
Prior to that, he worked at Ward Trucking and was an auditor for the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
He was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
He was a member of the Polish American Veterans and of the James J. Patterson Post 813 Veterans of Foreign Wars where he served as a past officer.
He was also a member of the Polish Citizens Club where he served in many offices, including president; the Olympic Athletic Club; and the George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17.
Previously, he was active in the Democratic Party in DuBois and Clearfield County. He was also a long-time mayor of the City of DuBois serving three terms.
He is survived by three children, Thomas P. Karoleski and Joyce of Barto, Pa., Edward S. Karoleski of DuBois and Rhonda S. Gallaher and her husband, David of Grampian; two step-sons, Paul Lepeonka of Gaithersburg, Md., and Robert Lepeonka of DuBois; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Zatsick; a brother, Edward S. Karoleski; and a granddaughter, Shanley Gallaher.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
