Starr Hill Vineyard & Winery is one of the first wineries to be located inside the country’s largest retailer.
BUTLER – After spending several years in the 1960’s and 1970’s perfecting the art of German wine-making, Ken Starr opened Starr Hill Vineyard & Winery in 2005.
Based in Curwensville, Starr Hill Vineyard & Winery now has stores located inside four Wal-Mart locations, making it one of the first wineries to be located inside the largest retailer in the United States.
Starr Hill Vineyard & Winery approached Wal-Mart several years ago, and in 2012, they were approved by the commonwealth of Pennsylvania to open a maximum of five retail stores. In addition to the Butler store, other Wal-Mart locations include Altoona, Clearfield and DuBois.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase our wines in a huge marketplace and to a large number of new customers,” said Starr.
“Thousands of people go through the Butler store each month, and I couldn’t be more excited to introduce our wines and give customers such a unique shopping experience.”
Starr Hill Vineyard & Winery will be hosting a ribbon cutting event with the Butler County Chamber of Commerce at the new store inside the local Butler Wal-Mart on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m.
