Obituary Notice: A.B. Hallstrom

A.B. Hallstrom, 88, of DuBois died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016 at the DuBois Nursing Home. Born Aug. 12, 1928, he was the son of the late Godtfred L. and Mary E. (Bundy) Hallstrom.

On Sept. 16, 1950, he married Martha (Miller) Hallstrom at the Falls Creek Presbyterian Church. She survives and this year they celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Mr. Hallstrom was a 1946 graduate of the DuBois Area High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served on the USS Toledo.

After serving our country, he started working as a carpenter for his uncle Elmer R. Hallstrom, and he later became the founder and president of Hallstrom Construction Inc.

He was a long-time member of the Beechwoods Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.

He was very active in community affairs and served on the board of directors for Deposit & First Commonwealth Bank, the DuBois Hospital, the Boy Scouts of America and the Girls Scout of Western Pennsylvania.

Mr. Hallstrom, along with his wife, was a part of many projects at both Camp Curry Creek and Camp Mountain Run.

He was a life member of the J.E. DuBois Hose Company No. 3 where he had served as captain.

He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. Also, he was a member of the George D. Montgomery American Legion Post 17 and the Garfield Lodge No. 559 Free & Accepted Masons.

In 2007, he was given the JAYCEES Distinguished Service Award.  He was well-known for his woodworking and his generosity to the DuBois area.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Lea Haugh and Charlie of Brookville; a son, Bob Hallstrom and Peggy of DuBois; four grandchildren, S. Casey Bowers, Susan Hallstrom-Meade, Laura Ruane and Lindsey Hallstrom; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert E. Hallstrom and two grandchildren, Becky and Brenda Bowers.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Beechwoods Presbyterian Church with Pastors David and Emily Koehler officiating. Burial will follow in Beechwoods Cemetery.
