Salvation Army Program Brings Toys and Joy to Local Children

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Salvation Army has released additional sign-up dates for its seasonal assistance, “Treasures for Children,” program.

Through the program, the Salvation Army helps children who are in need of holiday toys.

“For many families, the joy of the holidays is lost in the burden of bills and stress of their financial situation,” says Captain Helen Johnson.

“As kids begin to get excited for Santa, parents worry about the financial burden of the holidays.”

She says that the Salvation Army works endlessly each year to relieve that stress and help meet the needs of local families to ensure no child goes without a gift during the holidays.

While some sign-ups have already been taken, the Salvation Army will be holding them again. These upcoming sign-ups are set for: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Nov. 1 and Nov. 3; 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Nov. 2; and 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Nov. 12.

Johnson says community members can also help the Salvation Army to bring joy to children this year.

People can select a tag with the gender, age and toy(s) a child is wishing for at various locations. Once the gift list has been fulfilled, they bring the item(s) – unwrapped – to the Salvation Army with the tag attached.

“We also want to extend our deepest thanks to all these businesses and churches for playing a vital role in helping children receive the joy of Christmas this year,” says Johnson.

Community members can also ensure the joy of Christmas by adopting a whole family. To adopt a family, call the Salvation Army to select a family you will be able to help. When the family’s wishes have been fulfilled, you return the items to the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army is open 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Friday and is located at 119 Byers St., Clearfield.  For more information, contact Johnson at 814-765-4981.
