Project Icebreaker demonstrates the capacity for offshore wind power in the Great Lakes

When it comes to wind power, it’s difficult for states in the Northeast to compete with states in the Great Plains. There, a band of strong winds stretches from North Dakota to Texas, and the flat, open plains provide little turbulence to the wind. The closest topology analog to plains in the Northeast is Lake Erie, which borders New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
