Thomas A. “Tom” Irvin, 89, of Philipsburg died Friday, Oct. 21, 2016 at ManorCare Health Services, York, Pa.
Born May 18, 1927, in Tyrone, he was a son of the late Harry and Edna (Decker) Irvin.
He was married June 18, 1949 in Osceola Mills to the former Leona C. “Lee” Bagrosky, who preceded him in death June 14, 2016. They would have celebrated 67 years of marriage this year.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Templeton; a brother, Edward Irvin; and a step-sister, Anna Dillon.
Mr. Irvin was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Some of his favorite pastimes were playing cards, baseball and golf.
In 1955, he opened Tom’s Barber Shop on Pine Street in Philipsburg, operating there until his retirement in 2000. He was grateful for his many loyal customers.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Jo Irvin-Pruitt of Anniston, Ala., and three sons, Thomas J. Irvin and his wife, Luanne and Alan J. Irvin and his wife, Denise, all of York, and Philip J. Irvin and his wife, Laurie of Naples, Fla.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Michael Irvin and his wife, Melissa of Milton, Ontario, Janelle Kessler and her husband, Brett of Bonita Springs, Fla., Garrett Irvin and Jeremy Irvin, both of Naples, Fla., Michael Rooney of Austin, Texas, Jonathan Irvin and his wife, Michelle of Jacksonville, Ala., and Matthew Irvin and Maelee Irvin-Pruitt, both of Anniston, Ala.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Friday at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg, with the Rev. John Gibbons as celebrant.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg.
The reading of the Rosary will be presented at 3:30 p.m. Thursday prior to the public visitation; a Vigil Service will follow at 4 p.m., both at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Osceola Mills.
