BOGGS TOWNSHIP – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is notifying area drivers that a weight limit was posted on a bridge in Boggs Township in Centre County.
The bridge spans a branch of Little Marsh Creek on Little Marsh Creek Road (Route 1002), northeast of the village of Yarnell.
As of now, the bridge is weight-limit posted for four tons. Vehicles exceeding the posted weight limit are required to use alternate routes.
Restricting the weight traveling on the bridge will slow deterioration and preserve safety until repairs can take place. PennDOT plans to repair the bridge as soon as possible.
Once repairs are done, PennDOT expects to improve the weight posting. The bridge is also scheduled for replacement in late summer of 2017 as part of PennDOT’s Public Private Partnership (P3).
The bridge was originally built in 1937, is 29 feet long, and carries an average of 250 vehicles daily.
