Paul Merlin Maines, 87, of Glen Richey died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 as the result of an automobile accident.

Born Sept. 29, 1929 in Pleasant Valley, Woodland RD, he was the son of Ezra Kenneth and Iva Blanche (Graham) Maines.

Mr. Maines had been a coal miner and had co-owned, along with his father, the former E. K. Maines & Sons Secondary Store of Clearfield and Clarion.

He also had been an insurance salesperson and was the owner of the former Park Hotel of Curwensville.

He attended the Glen Richey Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Curwensville VFW Post No. 842 and the Curwensville L.O.O.M. Family Center No. 268.

He was wed to the former Betty J. Price, who preceded him in death.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Kim J. Maines, two grandsons, Elliot and Jeffrey Maines and two brothers, Millard and Ralph Maines.

Surviving are eight children, Michael Scott Maines of Glen Richey; Leon Scott Maines of Virginia; Susie Mitchell and her husband, Dan of Westover; Sam Maines and his wife, Dorothy, Michael Sydney Maines and Lori Wisor and her husband, Len, all of Mineral Springs; Steve Maines and his wife, Jodie of Marienville; and Graylon Burnisky of Grassflat.  Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Paul Maines will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville with the Rev. Duane W. Stiner officiating. Burial will be in the Bloomington Cemetery, Curwensville RD.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and again from 10 a.m. Thursday until time of services at 12 p.m.

The family suggests contributions be made to either the Clearfield County SPCA, 275 21st St., Clearfield, PA 16830, the Orphans of the Storm, 412 Hill St., Curwensville, PA 16833, or the American Cancer Society, 26 S. Second St., Clearfield, PA 16830.
