Joan A. Okonski Kilmer, 60, of Treasure Lake died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016 at Penn Highlands DuBois after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 21, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lelia K. (Miller) Okonski.
She was married to Michael Kilmer, who survives. They celebrated their silver anniversary Aug. 24, 2016.
She graduated from DuBois Area High School and Penn State University. She was always an avid Penn State fan.
After a number of years working in retail, she finished her working career as a peer counselor at Cen-Clear Child Services.
She enjoyed camping and spending time around a campfire with friends and family. She had a great love for the outdoors.
She was involved in Girl Scouts as a leader and serving as camp director at Curry Creek. She was the family photographer and could always be counted on to capture those special moments.
She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She was a past member and officer of the Hickory Grange No. 1285 and a past member of the DuBois Lions Club. She was also certified in small watercraft instruction.
She is survived by brothers, Donald Okonski and his wife, Sherry of DuBois, Jon Ed Okonski of Bellefonte and Justin Okonski and his wife, Janet of Pittsburgh and sisters, Judy Catherman and her husband, Richard of Bellefonte and Janice Fleming and Patti Alvetro and her husband, Randy, both of DuBois. She is also survived by numerous special nieces and nephews.
One sister, Nina preceded her in death in infancy.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday, at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
