Hillary Clinton is leading Donald Trump with support from Latino voters, according to a new poll out Tuesday.
In the Pew Research Center survey, Clinton leads with 58% of support from Latino voters, while Trump has 19% support, Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson has 10% and Green Party candidate Jill Stein has 6%.
And about 64% of those surveyed said they identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party, while 24% say the same about the GOP.
Trump’s rhetoric during the election has resonated widely with Latinos — 75% said they have discussed Trump’s remarks about Latinos or other groups with family, friends or coworkers in the past year.
And among registered Latino voters who have talked about Trump’s comments, 74% said they have given “quite a lot” of thought to the election — and 74% said they are “absolutely certain” they will vote.
About half of Latino registered voters — 54% — said the Democratic Party cares more about them than the Republican Party, while 11% said the GOP has more concern and 28% say there’s no difference for them between the two parties.
According to the poll, Democrats had a similar advantage with Latino voters during the last presidential election in 2012, when 61% of Latino voters viewed Democrats as more concerned about their issues compared to 10% for the Republican Party.
The survey was conducted August 23 to September 21 among 1,507 Latino adults, including 804 registered voters. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
