Starr, Lingenfelter Resign from CCRTA; Williams and Cunkle to Fill Vacancies

CLEARFIELD – Turnover continues to plague the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority board from which six people have resigned over the course of the past few months.

At Tuesday’s workshop meeting, the Clearfield County Commissioners voted to accept the resignations submitted by Kenn Starr and Izen Lingenfelter.

“We certainly want to thank both gentlemen for their service and support to the authority,” said John A. Sobel, commissioner chairman who also serves on the CCRTA.

The commissioners subsequently voted to approve two board appointments. The first was Susan Williams of Clearfield, who is actively involved in the Clearfield County Historical Society.

Her interest in serving on the recreation and tourism authority board has been spurred by the “recent information that has been out in the public,” said Sobel.

The second CCRTA appointment was Terri Cunkle of Road Less Traveled Bed and Breakfast in Goshen Township. She is a former board member who has recently expressed interest in serving for a short period of time.

“She will bring with her prior experience on the board and some continuity during this period of change,” said Sobel, adding Cunkle brings a great deal of experience as an owner of a bed and breakfast.

According to the commissioners, the board currently has seven appointed members, which is a quorum. It is technically a 12-member board, but the commissioners plan to officially reduce it to nine in the near future.

Also, at the meeting, the commissioners voted to accept the resignations of Hildred Rowles and Randy Schmidt from the CCRTA board. Both resigned and walked out of the CCRTA meeting Sept. 20.

On Sept. 6 the commissioners voted to approve appointing Sobel and Mark Burnett, manager of the Comfort Suites in DuBois, to the board after receiving numerous letters of interest.

Commissioners Tony Scotto and Mark B. McCracken were already serving on the board at the time of Sobel’s appointment, according to previously published GANT News reports.

The commissioners had previously voted to accept resignations from the CCRTA board from Jeff Baronick and Todd Grady at regular meetings on July 12 and July 26, respectively.
