CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County Career & Technology Center (CCCTC) recently recognized two non-traditional students.

Doug Belgin and Chad McHenry, both current students in the practical nursing (PN) program, chose the program because they wanted a job helping people.

When asked why they chose the practical nursing program, Belgin says that he wanted a job that makes you feel good when you’re done at the end of the day.

McHenry mentioned that he chose nursing because he had several family members in the hospital at different times, and he saw all the things nurses do, and with his military background, he knew this is the direction he wanted to go.

Both students said that one of the reasons they chose the CCCTC’s program was through word of mouth about it being a well-respected program and the most recent graduating class currently having a 100 percent pass rate on the NCLEX (state board licensure exam).

Both students agreed that one of the advantages about taking nursing at CCCTC was the length of the program only being one year, so they can get out in the workforce as quick as possible.

The students are currently learning skills and concepts of nursing. This is the foundation they will build upon for the rest of the program, so they can practice on mannequins and each other to become prepared for clinical experience later on in the program.

CCCTC encourages non-traditional student to enroll in all programs.
